The Little Mountain Neighbourhood house used to host our Seniors Lunch out of our Main St. location, however after the fire, we had to pivot quickly. Thanks to some creativity and hard work from our team, by the following week we started hosting it at Riley Park Gardens at 50 East 30th Avenue. With the new location, our lunches and all the fixings now travel from the kitchen at the Fountain Alliance Church to the Riley Park Gardens by bike! It’s a very special location and we’re thrilled to be able to have it there.
Last week was a beautiful day for our Seniors Lunch with a cool breeze blowing through the garden. We set up brightly coloured tablecloths on our tables and had 13 seniors show up to break bread together (actually, a delicious breakfast burrito with a poached pear tart for dessert). All this while simultaneously building community. Would you believe we had two seniors show up: one named Sun, the other named Moon. We all shared a giggle over that!
After lunch, we played a couple of rounds of bingo – there were only four of us, but prizes were won and laughs were shared.
Thank you so much to our Seniors Lunch Chef, Craig Malin, who does an extraordinary job of making the lunches delicious and creative. And the seniors love him.
For those interested in joining, our Seniors Lunch starts at noon every Friday. Just call (236)862-8694 or email Jacqui at jacquit@lmnhs.bc.ca to register.
