Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Society (LMNHS) is an integral part of the Little Mountain/Riley Park for the past 40 years, providing free or low cost social support programs for seniors, adults, families, children, and youth. Rooted in "social justice" values, we facilitate social connectedness and target our programs to the whole community. LMNHS provides social, educational, cultural and recreational programs and initiatives that strengthen neighbourhood life for a diverse group of community members.

Nature and Scope of Job Role:

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Society is seeking a Child and Youth Facilitator for its Children and Youth Department. This position works collaboratively within the child and youth team to provide exceptional youth-led after school programming opportunities. Based on a tri-mentorship structure, you will design, plan, and deliver responsive social, recreational, and academically-based programs. They are responsible for literacy-based programs that foster a positive environment within child and youth programming. They encourage and promote a supportive environment for at-risk children and youth to address barriers they may be experiencing in the Riley Park and Sunset area. The Child and Youth Facilitator position is 15-20hrs/wk role for the School’s Out After-School Program at 5 elementary schools (Monday - Friday, 2:30 - 5:30 PM).

Program Description

The Schools Out “Literacy Leaders” Program is an after-school program for 5 elementary school students in grades 1-3 (ages 4 - 7 years old). The program aims to support 120 children from Wolfe, Brock, David Livingstone, Mackenzie, and Simon Fraser Elementary Schools to build healthy relationships with 20 peer mentors - older high school students from Tupper and John Oliver Secondary Schools. Participants will be engaged in social emotional learning and community engagement activities with an emphasis on building resilience, leadership, empowerment, and creating a sense of belonging. By supporting children's health and well-being, the program will provide positive after-school activities that explore: child rights, storytelling, academic, social, and physical literacy, including outdoor play.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Degree or diploma in any of the following areas: Child and Youth Care, Recreation Leadership, Human Kinetics, Community Development, Social Work or Social Sciences, Education and/or equivalent work experience.
• Min 1-2 years of experience working with children and youth.
• Experience with program design, planning, and delivery.
• Experience with leading and facilitating programs.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff team/community partners.
• HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development and/or mental health certification or willingness to obtain.
• Current first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.

Salary: $17.32 - $19.00/hr
