Overview

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Society is seeking a Children and Youth Worker to join its Children and Youth Services Department. This position works collaboratively within the child and youth team, across our other departments, as well as with external partners to provide exceptional responsive services to children, youth and families in the community. The Children and Youth Worker plays a key role in supporting the overall development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of our services towards realizing our department’s anticipated goals in meaningful and sustainable ways. Focusing on best and promising practices to improve the lives and well-being of those 6-18 years of age, the Children and Youth Worker is a committed, compassionate and community minded individual that thrives in supporting one another, building resilience and delivering long lasting impactful services.

The Children and Youth Worker will be an energetic, creative, and collaborative individual seeking to make a difference in the lives of the children, youth and families accessing our services. We are a busy, multicultural, community driven organization comprising of 5 key service areas: Childcare; Family Resources and Community; Seniors; Settlement; Children and Youth, with over 80 regular team members, located at 25 sites across our catchment area.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with the Manager, Child and Youth Coordinator, Programmers, Practicum Students, and Volunteers to implement activities and realize departmental goals.

  • Assists with the development and delivery of key programs and services.
  • Assists with the training and on-boarding of volunteers.
  • Assists in the compilation of programs information and data for the creation of reports, evaluations and overall departmental best practices.

  • Assists with the hiring, training and supervision of new program staff.
  • Supports the building of partnerships with other organizations and initiatives working towards supporting the well-being of children and youth.

  • Open and willing to support and learn about proposal writing and developing a sustainability plan for the department.

  • Other duties as required as a valued member of the Neighbourhood House team (e.g. attending team training, collaborating with other departments on neighbourhood house-wide events).

Qualifications/Skills
  • 2+ years of experience working with children and youth, from an inter-sectional, responsive and holistic framework.

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline (Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Gender Studies, Social Sciences) or commensurable work experience.

  • Experience with program design, facilitation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and supervision to junior staff, volunteers, practicum students and program participants.

  • Excellent organizational, time-management, interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written.

  • Knowledge of community resources and services in the communities that we serve.

  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively and manage multiple tasks.

  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships with internal and external organizations and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability/capacity to learn budget management, record keeping and report writing.

  • Skills in content creation and promotion through Social Media considered an asset.

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Food Safe, NVCI, MHFA, Naloxone and/or HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development training, considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to work equitably and successfully in a culturally and economically diverse environment.

  • Additional languages considered an asset.
  • Class 4 Driver’s License considered an asset.
Salary and Anticipated Start Date:
  • $22-$25 per hour, 35 hours per week, 100% employer paid benefits after 6 months and successful completion of probation period. Please note that there will be some evening and weekend work required in this position.

  • Start Date: May 29th, 2023, or earlier.
