On the Road to Recovery

Dear Community,

It has been just over two weeks since a fire damaged our beloved Little Mountain Neighbourhood House (LMNH) premises. We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of support and concern we have received during this challenging time. Your unwavering support has been a beacon of hope for all of us at LMNH.

As we continue to assess the extent of the damage to our building, we are committed to taking the necessary steps toward recovery. Our dedicated team, in collaboration with our Board of Directors, has been working tirelessly to ensure the swift restoration of our critical services.

Our primary focus from the outset has been to resume program delivery as soon as possible. To keep you informed, we will be providing weekly updates through our website blog, sharing our stories of resilience and progress.

Here are this week’s important updates:

  1. Thriving Minds & LMNH Summer Camps: We are pleased to announce that our camps will proceed as scheduled, though they will now be held at alternative locations near our Neighbourhood House. Families who have enrolled their children in our camps will receive a call soon with all the necessary details. For any questions, please feel free to email us at cyservices@lmnhs.bc.ca.
  2. Community Fridge and Pantry: While we are away, the Community Fridge and Pantry will relocate to the Soap Dispensary. We kindly request that no food items be left at either of the locations for now, as we are unable to attend to them. We are eager to resume this essential service and appreciate your cooperation.
  3. Food Distribution: The Food Distribution Program has found a temporary home at the Holy Cross Anglican Church at 4580 Walden Street (at East 30th). Starting July 21, 2023, the program will continue to serve our 90 or so registered participants. This week, on July 14, we will be serving the participants at the Fieldhouse at Riley Park. For more information, please email fooddistribution@lmnhs.bc.ca.
  4. Family Drop-in: Our Friday Family Drop-in is actively seeking a new temporary home. We will contact affected families with updates as soon as possible. For information, please contact Shalynn at shalynnk@lmnhs.bc.ca.
  5. Senior’s Lunch: The Senior’s Lunch has been temporarily relocated to the Riley Park Garden. For more information, please contact Jacqui at jacquit@lmnhs.bc.ca.

This incident has taught us the power of collective resilience. Through unity, support, and genuine community spirit, we will not only overcome this adversity but also emerge even stronger and more inclusive.

We remain humbled and deeply grateful for the incredible response from our remarkable community. Your countless acts of kindness and assistance during this trying time have been an inspiration to us all. As we begin the rebuilding process, we will soon establish a mechanism for donating to the Recovery Fund and for identifying any equipment or supplies we may need.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at (604) 842-09278 or at joelb@lmnhs.bc.ca. For program-specific inquiries, our Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Program Managers are also available to assist you.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Joel Bronstein, Executive Director
